Ambulatory EEG Designed for Children Who Experience the World Differently

If your child is on the autism spectrum, you already know how much environment matters.

New places, bright lights, unfamiliar people, changes in routine. All of it can be overwhelming. So when an EEG is recommended, one of the first questions parents ask is how their child is going to handle it.

This is exactly why we offer in-home ambulatory EEG.

How are we different than any other EEG company when it comes to people or children on the spectrum?

We are so glad you asked!

For starters, We don’t rush the process

The biggest difference in how we handle these cases is simple. We slow down.

Setups are scheduled with enough time so we’re not forcing anything. If your child needs a few minutes to warm up, we give that space. If they need to watch, ask questions, or take breaks, that’s part of the process.

We’re not walking in and expecting immediate compliance.

We’re meeting your child where they are that day.

We explain everything in real time

Children who experience the world differently often do better when they understand what’s happening.

So we talk through it as we go.

We show them the equipment, we let them see and touch things when appropriate, we explain what each step is before we do it. Nothing is a surprise. That alone can make a huge difference in how a child tolerates the setup.

Sensory aware approach to the headwrap

The headwrap is one of the most important parts of the study, and also one of the biggest concerns for parents. We apply it with intention. We’re mindful of pressure. We adjust based on toleranceWe watch their reactions closely. For some kids, we move quickly. For others, we go step by step. The goal is always the same. Keep it secure without making it overwhelming.

We design the setup for movement, not restriction

A lot of children need to move. They stim, they pace, they shift constantly.

Our ambulatory EEG setup allows for that.

The backpack system keeps everything contained and secure while giving your child the freedom to move through their normal day. They can sit, play, eat, and sleep in their usual spaces without being confined to a bed or room. That freedom matters more than people think.

Parents are part of the process, not on their own

We guide parents on exactly what to do, but we don’t expect you to manage the study.

You’ll know how to

Use the event button, keep a simple log, recognize what we want noted. Beyond that, we handle the monitoring. If something needs to be fixed or adjusted, we step in. You’re not troubleshooting equipment while also trying to care for your child.

We focus on real life, not a controlled setting

Children who experience the world differently often respond completely differently in clinical environments.

They may shut down, they may become overstimulated, they may not sleep at all.

That changes the data. At home, we’re seeing your child as they actually are.

How they sleep, how they move, how they respond to their normal environmentThat’s where the most useful information comes from.

We go the extra mile because it matters

This isn’t just about getting through a test.

It’s about making sure your child is supported during it.

That means being patient when things take longer, adjusting our approach based on your child’s needs, communicating clearly with you the entire time, making sure the experience feels manageable, not overwhelming.

We’ve worked with enough families to know that no two kids are the same.

So we don’t treat them the same.

An ambulatory EEG records brain activity over a longer period of time, usually 24 hours up to several days.

Instead of going into a hospital, your child stays at home. They sleep in their own bed, eat their normal meals, and follow their usual routine.

That matters more than most people think.

How we set up the EEG

A trained EEG technologist comes to your home or wherever your child is most comfortable. The setup takes about an hour.

We walk you through everything as we go so nothing feels rushed or confusing.

During setup we

Apply small electrodes to the scalp, secure everything with a soft headwrap, connect the system to a portable recorder.

We work with your child, not against them. If they need breaks or time to adjust, we give it.

The headwrap

The headwrap is what keeps everything in place.

Ours are

Secure enough for active kids, comfortable enough to wear for multiple days, applied in a way that protects the electrodes and keeps the study clean.

For kids who are more sensitive, we take our time. The goal is to make it feel as normal as possible.

Most kids tolerate it better than parents expect.

The backpack

After setup, everything connects to a small recorder that your child wears in a backpack or pouch.

Inside is

The recording device, power components, all secured connections.

Your child can move around, play, eat, and sleep without being stuck in one place.

This is especially important for kids who need to move or stay in their routine.

What parents need to do

You don’t need to manage the equipment.

We guide you on a few simple things

Press the event button if you notice something, keep a basic log of activities or concerns

That’s it.

We monitor the study and handle any issues so you can focus on your child.

Why this works better for many kids with autism

A hospital can change everything. Sleep is different, behavior is different, stress levels are higher. That can affect what we’re actually trying to measure. At home, we see real sleep, real behavior, real events.

That gives a much clearer picture of what’s going on.

Results and timing

We review studies in 24 hour periods and reports are often completed within 24 to 48 hours.

You’re not waiting weeks for answers.

Your provider may recommend an EEG if your child has:

Staring spells

Unusual movements

Sleep disturbances

Sudden changes in behavior or skills

There is a higher rate of seizure activity in children on the spectrum, so it’s important to look into these symptoms early.
