(Part 2) During Your Long-Term EEG Study: What to expect during the study

Updated: Mar 18

After your EEG setup is complete, your study officially begins. This is the monitoring phase, where your brain activity is recorded continuously while you go about your normal daily routine.

Many patients wonder what happens behind the scenes during this time and what is expected of them at home. The goal is to keep things as simple and stress free as possible while we handle the technical side of your study.

Continuous Recording With Intermittent Monitoring

Your EEG is recording at all times throughout your study. While the system runs continuously, our team performs intermittent monitoring or continuous monitoring to ensure everything is working properly.

This means we are:

  • Checking signal quality

  • Monitoring for any abnormalities

  • Ensuring the equipment is recording accurately

In addition to these routine check ins, our team is always available if something comes up. Your study is not just recording in the background. It is actively being supported and reviewed.

24/7 Support Throughout Your Study

One of the biggest advantages of in home EEG monitoring is that you are never on your own.

If you have any questions or concerns, you can call or message our team 24 hours a day. Whether it is something simple or something you are unsure about, we are here to guide you.

Our goal is to make sure your study runs smoothly from start to finish.

Simple Troubleshooting at Home

If something needs adjustment during your study, it is usually very simple to fix.

In some cases, you may be asked to:

  • Reconnect to the internet

  • Plug a cord back into the main unit

  • Restart or adjust the camera

These small steps help maintain a strong and accurate recording. Our team will walk you through anything you need, step by step.

What You Should Focus On During Your Study

Your role during the study is straightforward.

Stay home as much as possible, follow your normal routine, and focus on documenting what you experience.

Make sure to:

  • Stay plugged into the main unit as much as possible

  • Remain in front of the camera when instructed

  • Write in your EEG log throughout the day

  • Use the event button if you experience symptoms

The more consistent your documentation is, the more helpful your study will be for your provider.

Daily EEG Review and Reporting

While your study is in progress, our team is working behind the scenes every day.

We generate a 24 hour report for each day of your study, which includes:

  • Brain activity patterns

  • Sleep activity and overnight data

  • Any events that were marked

  • Overall test quality and integrity

This daily review allows us to ensure your study is capturing accurate and meaningful information.

Why This Phase Matters

The monitoring portion of your EEG is where the most important data is collected.

Because you are in your natural environment, we are able to capture real life brain activity during normal routines, sleep, and any symptoms you may experience.

This is what makes long term EEG one of the most valuable diagnostic tools in neurology.
